Through our partnership with the Young AFCEANs (YACs), a non-profit organization built for helping the community, we were able to revamp the STEM Center at the Edgewood Boys & Girls Clubs in June of this year.
YACs provided the funds and volunteers, as well as many ideas, that went into the final room.
We were able to purchase five new, gaming-level desktops to allow for the best performance with our various computer-based programs, new storage shelves to hold our STEM Kits and Club Members’ projects, and white board tables to assist with homework in the school year.
Daniel Sowders, our main contact with the YACS, had this to say, “…the YACs raised funds through our annual fundraisers, and a specific ‘Kuffed for Kids event’ where we focused to build a new STEM lab for one of the clubs. With a budget in mind, we not only raised the funds, but worked hand-in-hand with the dedicated, and talented, BGC leaders to build the room. YACs volunteered time to de-construct, paint, construct furniture and electronics, and in less than a week, gave a local club a whole new STEM room with cutting edge technologies for the future.”
YACs continues to be a valuable partner to STEM with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Harford and Cecil Counties, and we thank them for their continued support.
