STEM for Academically Rising Students (STARS) continues to be a great opportunity for the Club Members of the Harford and Cecil County Boys and Girls Clubs. This year, thanks to the fundraising from the Young AFCEANs (YACS), the kids got to experience the same STEM Camp that nationally-selected students attend through the Army Research Lab.

On the way to the Lab!
Our Club Members were able to extract the DNA from bananas, design a car to protect an egg in the event of a crash, use glue and Borax to create a slimy polymer, and design a Moon Lander to safely land their astronauts (eggs) on the moon (carpeted floor)!
Not only did they get to experience these great labs, they also built Paper Marble Roller Coasters that had many twists and turns!

The building process is messy…

…but the final results are great!
Most importantly, throughout the week, they had tons of fun!
Thanks to the YACS, we were able to form a relationship with the Army Educational Outreach Program so that we can bring the same fun STEM activities to a new group of kids next year!
